My Story

Sarah Ellis
Painting & Mixed Media.
Darug Land, Blue Mountains NSW, Australia.

I live and paint on beautiful Darug Land in the Blue Mountains, where the landscape’s textures, tones, and rhythms deeply inform my work. My roots also reach to the NSW South Coast and Northern Rivers, where my grandparents are from.

My paintings are an ode to everyday abundance - to the markets that bustle with handmade goods and homegrown produce, and to the quiet rituals of creating and sharing. Through my work, I celebrate the beauty in what is made by hand, exchanged with care, and grown from the earth.

As a mixed media artist, I work with acrylic, plaster, oil, and pencil, building layered, tactile surfaces that evoke time, weather, and wear. Each piece carries an earthy, sun-baked warmth, where texture and imperfection become traces of memory. My compositions often blend still-life and text, echoing market signage, traditions, and folk sensibilities - creating works that feel both familiar and enduring.

Though I hold degrees in Art History and Education, my practice is self and community taught, shaped by shared stories, observation, and gratitude. Each piece is a nostalgic reflection of place, and belonging. A reminder of the simple abundance that sustains us and the moments that make us feel at home.

With love and thanks,
Sarah
